Other "Pet Food" Companies: Contracting With Killers
Memphis Zoo
A laboratory employee told PETA’s investigator that the Memphis
Zoo purchased an undetermined number of pigs for use in its exhibitions
from the laboratory that we investigated. We informed the zoo that
hundreds—if not thousands—of pigs in the U.S. are in need
of safe havens and that any number of these pigs could have been obtained
by the Memphis Zoo at no cost and with very little effort. If what
this lab employee told us is true, it is unconscionable that the Memphis
Zoo would buy pigs—especially from a facility that profits from
the misery, suffering, and death of unfortunate animals.
The zoo has not responded to our concerns. Please ask zoo representatives
if the zoo did, in fact, buy pigs from a laboratory/animal dealer and,
if so, why:
