Other "Pet Food" Companies: Contracting With Killers
University of Cincinnati
On October 30, 2002, David Bauman, D.V.M., director of the Veterinary
Technician Program at Raymond Walters College, called the laboratory
that we investigated to report that all four cats who had been purchased
from the lab had physical ailments.
Millions of animals in our nation’s shelters are in need of care,
and countless veterinary offices would welcome the assistance of highly
motivated and compassionate veterinary students. Such internship opportunities
make the support of the cruel and immoral trade in animals from laboratories
even more unjustifiable.
On May 28, 2003, the president of the college thanked us for bringing
this matter to his attention and assured us that he was forwarding
our letter to those in charge of the curriculum “for appropriate
action.” Unfortunately, we have discovered that the school is
simply buying cats from another animal dealer.
Veterinary students can learn how to handle animals (e.g., draw blood,
take temperatures, etc.) at area shelters and/or veterinary offices.
Please demand that the school end its use of animals in the classroom:
